American artist living and working in Bethesda, MD
Geoff Desobry
Geoff Desobry
Geoff Desobry’s artistic journey began at age ten with drawings copied from photographs of soldiers who fought in the American civil war. The journey intensified in his early and mid-twenties when he was accepted into the diploma program at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington DC. While there he met William Dutterer, Gene Davis, and Leon Berkowitz. He dropped out of the diploma program but continued to work with Berkowitz and Dutterer.
His thirties can be characterized as being away from his art. This separation did not last and he recalls turning the living room of his house into an art studio when he was 44 years old.
“First Look“ was a successful solo show held in Washington DC in 2004. His subsequent shows include “the Red Dog Cafe”, Chevy Chase, Maryland, 2005, “Schertler and Onorato”, Washington DC, 2007, “patterns, shapes, dreams…a vibrant conversation”, Bethesda Md 2016.
His work is on display at Corvin Art and the Waverly Street Gallery in Bethesda, Maryland.
He works primarily with dry pastels and charcoals. His pastel works are best described as paintings. Non-objective, they often evoke a dreamlike sense of space. His colors are deep and luminous, his textures are rich and engaging. Timeless vistas, dueling emotions, and solitude are recurring themes.
“My art is sometimes a walkthrough, sometimes a dance with dream space and spirit consciousness.”
